Set on the corner fields in the small village of Ashley in Northamptonshire lays the hidden gem that is The Big Barn. Although The Big Barn may not look aesthetically pleasing from the outside, do not judge a book, or venue in this case by its cover. Inside is a world of wonderful and a true treasure chest when it comes to ensuring a wedding venue of this size has everything you need to make it suitable for 50 guests to 500. Fully draped in black and white may seem a daunting colour scheme but with the owner’s fondness for fairy lighting, the inside looks beautiful when fully lit and enables any colour theme or scheme to work.
Owned by Kim and Richard and built in 1983, The Big Barn may be better known for hosting annual summer black tie events or large corporate Christmas parties throughout the whole of December but when they approached our sister company, KTV Venue Stylists, about being their preferred supplier, it made complete sense to join them and a team of fantastic wedding and event suppliers to show how truly magnificent it is.
Kim and Richard really do give a unique experience to the bridal party. Allowing them to have the keys for several days in the build up to their special day gives not only the opportunity to have suppliers come in at different times to ensure they do not get in each other’s way but the opportunity to take in the surrounding scenic views with potential pre-wedding photo shoots is a chance not to be missed.
This experience was perfect for us when planning the venue shoot. We got to work straight away on the Monday. KTV Venue Stylists wanted to show a wide range of different colour palettes and varying centrepieces to show how versatile The Big Barn really is. It was also a fantastic opportunity for us and them to work with the highly talented Victoria of Sanbella Bespoke Floral Design and add in real flower centrepieces to show what options there are available. Victoria absolutely spoiled us with a wide selection of flowers. We had coral peonies, blue delphinium, white gerbera, lilac lullaby roses, green hypericum berry, pink roses, pink spray roses and pink cymbidium orchids to name but a few. It also gave them the chance to experiment and play around with new ideas. Having a photographer, you can trust is essential but one who really has an eye for detail in the bigger picture and who you can bounce ideas off and be given direction is fantastic not only for photo shoots but it is ideal for your wedding photography and that is why we asked Karl Drage to help us again.
Wednesday was our next scheduled day for shooting. We wanted to show just how beautiful the scenery is around The Big Barn and what could be done on your special day. Unfortunately, the weather forecast was not looking good and after a call from Karl we explored the option of delaying for a day. The beauty of having the venue for several days meant we could adjust for the weather but having a team of wedding suppliers who you can rely on and trust was the main factor. After a few phone calls, Sanbella, Salonista, Unorthodox Make-Up Box, Brides of Corby, PicMe Photobooths and Tipple & Mane had rejuggled their diaries to ensure we could shoot on the Thursday.
Choosing a theme was easy, utilising the outdoor space and all the items, Kim and Richard have acquired over the years meant a picnic style was perfect. Brides of Corby, picked the perfect dress by Lenovia with a beautiful matching head dress by Linzi Jay.
Salonista and Unorthodox Make-Up Box are a team of highly skilled artists. Not only are they perfectionists in their field, the knowledge they have will ensure you obtain the perfect look on your wedding day. They certainly did with our model for the day. Did you know that the salon has a designated space for the bridal party to have the ultimate experience?
KTV Venue Stylists really helped put everything in place for the perfect picnic themed setting. From moss and hessian covered picnic tables to rustic post boxes they really did show the opportunities are endless. We also had the chance to have our bride play with their beautiful garden games.
Working outdoors is so much fun when it comes to venue styling and using the talents of Sanbella and Butterwick Bakes alongside Karl meant we could have the perfect shots. Fiona supplied a beautiful rustic tree cake which can be made in any flavour. It worked so perfectly.
The fantastic PicMe Photo Booth launched their amazing new Lite Photo Booth. This completely wireless free both can be placed anywhere but more importantly can be used both indoors and outdoors. When you are surrounded by beautiful scenery like here at Ashley, this booth is perfect for you.
As the sun set, we had the stunning Tipple and Mane provide night time drinks from their mobile converted horse box bar. Mobile bars are perfect for spending the summer evenings outdoors and with Amy and her team, you have the perfect hosts. It also gave a fantastic opportunity for the bride to have some gorgeous shots taken.
